An operating base to discover all this beauty...
The sunny departmint with its 'Provençal' influence has splendid mountains, forests, streams and caves. The rocky massifs provide a varied scenery which makes of the Ardèche a special region with an abundance of marvellous natural beauty.
If you wish to taste the local atmosphere, you can enjoy the gorgeous dishes in the speciality restaurants or 'auberges' or in the shadowy sidewalk cafés of each village.
The typical southern French little town Les Vans is situated near the southern département de Gard and an hour and a half's drive will bring you to the Mediterranean beaches. On your way you will pass Alès and Nîmes, where you can visit an old amphitheatre. More to the east is the département de Drôme with its 'noga-town' Montélimar. If you follow the Rhône to the south from here, you will pass Orange, Avignon and Arles.
It is impossible to mention all the spots of beauty, yet we wish to give you the following list :
- Gorges de l'Ardèche : is a gorge along the Ardèche , located in the old province of Vivarais in the south of the Ardèche. The gorge valley has enormous limestone rock formations, ground out by the river Ardèche. The Gorges de l'Ardèche goes from the place Saint Martin d'Ardèche to Vallon Pont d'Arc. Next to it is a beautiful motorway with splendid views. You can also discover the Gorges de l'Ardèche by canoe or kayak.
- Vallon Pont d'Arc : a tourist attraction
- Cave : Aven d'Orgnac : unique classified cultural inheritance.
- Crocodile farm: largest breeding farm in the world, situated in Pierrelatte.
